"The Freedom Party is not impressed with politicians who preach a great sermon prior to elections, and then, once elected, seem to develop amnesia pertinent to the fact that they are the ‘servants’ of the people. This election is all about broken Liberal promises, detrimental Liberal policies and Liberals trying to buy our vote after years of abusing us. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think the NDP is any better."

Mission Statement -The Freedom Party of British Columbia
(A newly formed political party)

The Freedom Party of British Columbia has as its primary purpose the fielding of candidates for election to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. We believe in governance by the golden rule.  In other words, we believe that the government should always treat the governed as the governors themselves would wish to be treated. We believe in honesty and integrity within, and compassion from, an open government. We understand that you can never please all of the people all of the time but we do believe in government policies that make sense to most of the people all of the time. We believe in free enterprise with a social conscience. This means we believe that individual effort deserves to be rewarded but we also believe in helping the needy. We believe in wise and responsible stewardship of every tax dollar. We believe in co-operation with, and equity and responsibility from, the federal government. We believe that charity starts at home. We are of, by and for the people grass-roots democrats. We believe in justice, social order and the rule of law. We believe government should set an example of proper conduct for the people. In opposition we intend to hold the governing party accountable to the people. As government we intend to introduce and uphold legislation which reflects our afore-stated values. Through honesty, integrity and the implementation of wise policy, we hope to create and maintain a prosperous and healthy environment wherein the provincial government is respectful of, and respected by, all of the people of   British Columbia. If you  agree with what we stand for, please join us and help elect a Freedom Party government.

We do not support the legitimization of so-called gay marriage or so-called equal rights for homosexuals or the so-called 'gay agenda'

Abortion - We are pro-life and do not support abortion on demand. We would end public funding of abortion and lobby the federal government to make abortion illegal. Just in case a foetus happens to be a human being, as we believe, if we are to err, we prefer to err on the side of life.
Increased funding and improved support for public education and for support and adoption services

***

Re: Do you advocate a criminalization of any person who has an abortion, for whatever reason?

I believe that human life begins at conception and that abortion is murder. Since I believe that abortion is the murder of an innocent child, I obviously cannot agree with it. To note, both the BC Liberals and the NDP are pro-abortion. The BC Liberals currently fund over 15,000 abortions in BC each year, with taxpayer's money. The only scenario in which I would agree with early termination of a pregnancy is where the mother or child's life is truly in danger. In these cases I would agree with a medical procedure which attempts to save the lives of the mother and child. I would not characterize this procedure as 'abortion'. If I had my way, any participation, by anyone, in an abortion procedure, would be a grave criminal offence.

Re:  However we as a society stigmatize young women and fail to support them in a meaningful way when faced with the situation of an unwanted pregnancy.

***

As I state in our platform, I support "Increased funding and improved support for public education and for adoption services".
To elaborate on this a bit, The Freedom Party supports caring for the pregnant woman through provision of comprehensive support services throughout the entire term of the pregnancy and until the child is successfully placed in a loving, nurturing environment through adoption services. We are equally concerned with the health and well-being of both the mother and child.

Drug Legislation

On the basis of Christian convictions and our dedication to the truest definition of freedom, we are opposed to the enslavement of any person to drug abuse. As such,  we are in principle, opposed to the legalization or decriminalization of drugs. We acknowledge that drug legislation is a federal matter. Having said that, and desirous to add constructively to the debate on 'how to make the best of a bad drug situation in this country of ours',  we offer the following as the current position of the Freedom Party of BC:

'Hard' drugs - Lengthy mandatory prison terms for producers and pushers of illicit, so-called 'hard' drugs with more severe sentences for repeat offences and effective proceeds of crime legislation to confiscate all assets of those convicted. Simple possession of hard drugs to remain illegal.

Marijuana - Legalization of marijuana in some form for scientifically proven legitimate medical purposes.

While 'recreational' use of marijuana remains illegal in Canada, we will support mandatory minimum prison terms of ten years for commercial or organized-crime related producers and pushers with more severe sentences for repeat offences and effective proceeds of crime legislation to confiscate all assets of those convicted.

If and when marijuana is decriminalized or legalized we would favor allowing ordinary citizens to grow, by permit,  a small amount at home, for personal use only.
At that time we would agree with a repeal of all previous criminal convictions relating to simple possession of marijuana.
Although we don't buy into the argument that marijuana is a harmless substance, we can relate to some extent, to the proposition that decriminalization or legalization might assist to wrest control of it, and more importantly, our much-loved sons and daughters from the clutches of organized crime.
Any production of substantial amounts and/or sale of marijuana by anyone other than the government or government licensed agents would remain illegal with all of the afore-mentioned severe penalties to apply to offenders.

Any provision of marijuana to underage persons would remain subject to the most severe penalties.

Improved resources for law enforcement, to effectively enforce the rules.

As a general policy, more effective protection of the public from mind-altering drugs and more effective public education programs pertinent to the perils of all drugs and addictive and intoxicating substances including tobacco and alcohol.

Community youth facilty enhancement incentive programs.

Immigration - We believe in a reasonable immigration policy and we also believe that charity starts at home

Racism - We are not racists nor do we condone racism

Arts - Consistent and enthusiastic support of all legitimate artists, arts , entertainers and culture in B.C.

  Kenneth Montgomery Keillor

The Freedom Party vs the BC Liberals

Here are a few differences:

We wouldn't dismantle or sell off BC Hydro or farm the administration of it out to a foreign company
We would change the law to enable BC Hydro to better assist the authorities in locating grow-ops
We strongly  support private property rights
We believe that realtors and prospective property purchasers have the right to know about past grow-op activity
We support immediate, substantial reduction of the provincial property transfer tax and would keep an open mind regarding eliminating it altogether
We wouldn't privatize BC Ferries and we wouldn't engage in a privatization binge generally
We support fully funded public hospitals as opposed to for profit, so-called P3 hospitals which perpetually seek greater profits
We would seek ways to keep hospitals open,  as opposed to closing them
College and university tuitions wouldn't have skyrocketed
We wouldn't have created the 'seniors' controversy
We would have helped the leaky condominium owners more
We wouldn't have created the 'welfare' controversy
We wouldn't have sold B.C Rail
We would have sought a better solution to the fast ferries fiasco
We would champion the cross-border pollution control agreement
We would raise air and water pollution control standards in B.C. as opposed to lower them
We would take decisive measures to protect the fresh water resources of the province
We wouldn't have lifted the moratorium on fish farms and we would take effective measures to protect wild salmon stocks
We would have attacked the pine beetle problem sooner and with  greater  determination
We would intensify efforts against  organized crime and drug pushers
We do not favour gambling or casinos and would seek ways to curtail these detriments to society
We would seek ways to substantially improve cargo inspections and policing of the Port of Vancouver
We would look for ways to reduce school class sizes to ease the burden on teachers and stop treating teachers like second-class citizens in their own  classrooms
We believe in encouraging reasonable positions by all sides relative to labour issues and we are not union busters
We would work closely with the federal government to find and implement more creative and effective solutions to national issues that affect British Columbia such as softwood lumber and BSE.
We wouldn't be trying to line our pockets with a fat raise and a cushy pension after promising not to.

2005 CAMPAIGN SPEECH by KENNETH MONTGOMERY KEILLOR-PRESIDENT-THE FREEDOM PARTY OF BC and CANDIDATE-ABBOTSFORD/CLAYBURN.

Hello. I’m Kenneth Montgomery Keillor, President of The Freedom Party of British Columbia and the Freedom Party candidate for the district of Abbotsford-Clayburn. I’d like to sincerely thank you all for coming tonight. You are the champions of democracy. For those in the audience who might recognize me and ask, “Ken, why are you running again?”, I would answer “Because quitters never win, and winners never quit.”
Let us consider the Freedom Party. The Freedom Party was founded on the Christian principles of honesty and integrity and believes in governance by the golden rule. In other words, we believe that the government should always treat the governed as the governors themselves would wish to be treated. The Freedom Party believes in honesty and integrity within, and compassion from, an ‘open’ government.
The Freedom Party supports the single, transferable vote system and strongly urges everyone to vote ‘yes’.
The Liberals constantly brag about improving the economy, but all they have really done is rob taxpayer Peter to pay corporate buddy Paul, and filled their coffers at the pain and expense of almost everyone in BC in the process.
We believe in free enterprise with a social conscience. This means we believe that individual effort deserves to be rewarded. We believe in home business, small business, big business and more business. Under a Freedom Party administration, BC will be open for business. We believe in wise and responsible stewardship of every tax dollar. The people of British Columbia deserve the biggest bang possible for every single one of their tax bucks. We also believe in helping the neediest of society, and we promise to do so. We are pro-life and believe the traditional family is the God-ordained, fundamental building block of society, and should remain as such in law. It is at the top of the list of priorities of the Freedom Party to end taxpayer funding of abortion in British Columbia.
The Freedom Party is not impressed with politicians who preach a great sermon prior to elections, and then, once elected, seem to develop amnesia pertinent to the fact that they are the ‘servants’ of the people. This election is all about broken Liberal promises, detrimental Liberal policies and Liberals trying to buy our vote after years of abusing us. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think the NDP is any better.
Here are a few differences between the Freedom Party of BC, and the Liberals.
We wouldn't engage in an ideological privatization binge. We would build fully funded public hospitals as opposed to, for profit, so-called P3 hospitals which perpetually seek greater and greater profits at the never-ending expense of the people. We would seek ways to keep hospitals open and improve services, as opposed to engaging in wholesale closures. We would reduce hospital waiting lists.
We wouldn't dismantle or sell off BC Hydro or broker the administration of it out to a foreign company. We would have kept our promise to not sell B.C Rail. We wouldn't have privatized the BC Ferries.
College and university tuitions wouldn't have skyrocketed. We wouldn't have created financial hardship and heartbreak for our cherished seniors citizens. We wouldn't have created the welfare controversy. We would have helped the leaky condominium owners more, and sooner. We would have sought a better solution to the fast ferries fiasco.
We would take decisive measures to protect the ecology of the province. We would protect and preserve the fresh water resources of the province as a top priority. We would champion the cross-border pollution control agreement. We would raise air and water pollution control standards in B.C., as opposed to lowering them. We would have attacked the pine beetle problem sooner and with greater determination. Allowing the proliferation of fish farms stocked with Atlantic salmon has decimated our wild salmon stocks. We would not have lifted the moratorium on fish farms and we would now take dramatic measures to protect the remaining wild salmon stocks.
We would seek ways to reduce school class sizes to ease the burden on our educators and we wouldn’t make school teachers feel like second-class citizens in their own classrooms.
In tough but fair fashion, we would encourage reasonable positions by all sides relative to labour issues. We are not union busters.
We believe in co-operation with, and equity and responsibility from, the federal government. We would work closely with the federal government to find and implement more creative and effective solutions to national issues that affect British Columbia such as softwood lumber and BSE. We would lobby the federal government for re-instatement of the death penalty for certain crimes such as child abduction and murder. We support ‘chipping’ of all convicted sex offenders with permanent, injected, satellite technology microchips to monitor their whereabouts, for life.
We are of, by and for the people grass-roots democrats who believe in justice, social order and the rule of law. We would intensify efforts against organized crime and drug pushers. We would change the law to enable BC Hydro to better assist the authorities in locating and eliminating grow-ops. We belive realtors and prospective property owners should have the right to know about past grow-op activity. We would not have expanded gambling or casinos and we would seek ways to discourage proliferation of these detriments to society. We would seek ways to substantially improve cargo inspections and policing of the Port of Vancouver.
We have other differences with the Liberals, as well.
We only have two candidates in this election, but if you like what we stand for, please join us and help elect a future Freedom Party government.
The first thing I did at home this morning was put out the trash, and I had a thought. With the exception of some of the Liberal’s friends, and some corporate fat-cats, it is my humble opinion, that since the last election, the BC Liberals have managed to offend practically everyone in the province. I do not wish to reflect poorly, in any personal way, upon my Liberal counterpart, but frankly speaking, in terms of BC politics, it’s once again, time to put out the trash. On election day, I’d greatly appreciate it if all of my fellow-citizens in Abbotsford-Clayburn could find the courage to vote for the Freedom Party of BC, and thereby start the revolution. Thanks for listening.

2005 Post Election Press Release by Kenneth Montgomery Keillor

I congratulate John van Dongen on his victory in the Abbotsford-Clayburn electoral district and commend all of the candidates for their participation. I especially want to thank everyone who voted for me. Premier Campbell just promised the people of BC a 'golden decade'. If the Liberals don't now repair all of the hurt they have caused in the last four years, it will ultimately prove to be 'fool's gold.'. Almost 54% of British Columbians voted against the Liberals in this election and Premier Campbell would be wise to take note of that fact. The better balance of government and opposition this time should be good for BC. Pertinent to my own candidacy, I entertained no illusions of winning. I envisioned my campaign as an opportunity to lecture the government on ethics, to point up government failures and to offer a positive alternative. I call upon the Liberals, and the NDP, and premier Campbell in particular, to halt the Auschwitz-like slaughter of the innocent and usher in a 'golden decade' for the unborn by immediately terminating taxpayer funding of abortion in BC. I had hoped the STV would pass because of our serious need for electoral reform. For the record, we spent zero dollars on the campaign. Suffice to say, the people of Abbotsford-Clayburn just missed an opportunity to send a tenacious, outspoken defender of their rights to the legislature. Voting for the Liberals or NDP seems to be a choice between the lesser of two evils. A Freedom Party government would endeavor to provide BC with the best of both the Liberal and NDP worlds by pro-actively encouraging a strong, vibrant economy while at the same time diligently trying to improve the lot of all British Columbians. That would be a real accomplishment. I exhort the Liberals to deliver on their promise of a 'golden decade' relative to the environment  by introducing and enforcing higher standards of protection for our air and water. I exhort them to deliver on health care by halting cutbacks, expanding services, reducing surgery waiting lists and emergency room wait times. I exhort them to deliver on education by improving funding, restoring teacher's rights and dramatically reducing college tuition fees. I exhort them to bust the dope pushers and wipe out organized crime in BC. I call upon them to lobby the federal government to re-introduce the death penalty for certain crimes and to legislate stiff, minimum, mandatory sentences for serious criminal offences. The list of policy improvements the government could make to benefit British Columbians is almost endless. Relative to the promised 'golden decade', only time will tell. As for myself, I will take life one day at a time, as always. I will engage in my studies and continue to endeavor to live my life in a manner that enables me to respect who I see in the mirror. Life goes on. Pertinent to future political ambitions, I reserve all options.

Post election correspondence from a young supporter

Hello, Mr Keillor

A short while back, during the campaign season for our recent provincial
election, you spoke at my school (Abbotsford Christian). In spite of being
late, you delivered in the general opinion of my peers, the most honest and
enlightening statements. I believe that you and I share many of the same
views, pertaining to Christian and non-Christian aspects of our government
and society. Though I am only sixteen, you have inspired me to explore a
political aspect of my life, whether professionally or not. I also realize
that you have a limited party and want to know if there is anything i can
do to expand the awareness of our current governments shortfallings.

In His service,

Chad

*

Dear Chad,

It was my great honour and privilege to participate in the recent provincial
election. Addressing the students at Abbotsford Christian School was
definitely one of the highlights for me. I viewed my candidacy as an
opportunity to lecture the government on ethics, to point up the
government's failures and to offer a positive alternative. I'm pleased you
share many of my views. They are based on my Christian convictions. I do not
possess the words in my vocabulary to adequately express my excitement over
your interest in politics. I thank the Lord to think I may have played any
small role in inspiring you. I believe, as Christians, that it is nothing
less than our duty to promote and defend our beliefs, and the policy
positions that naturally flow from those beliefs. You say that I inspired
you, but I must say that receiving your email has inspired me. Your desire
and determination to "expand the awareness of our current governments
shortfallings", as you so eloquently articulated it, immediately flooded my
mind with ideas. I envision a 'Christian Youth Revolution' on a local,
provincial and even national scale. Here is a glimpse of my vision. As I
write this, I'm told that over 15,000 abortions are funded each year in BC
with taxpayer's money. This Auschwitz-like slaughter of the innocent is an
abomination in the sight of God. We can, and must, fight back. Can you
imagine tens or hundreds or hopefully thousands of young British Columbians
signing a petition or writing letters to the premier demanding an end to
taxpayer funding of abortions in BC? How wonderful. The media would report
on it, and I believe the government, and opposition, would sit up and take
notice. After all, today's kids are tomorrows voters. Imagine that same army
of young people demanding legislated protection of the status of the
traditional family as the God-ordained, fundamental building block of
society. Higher standards of environmental and ecological protection is
another critical issue worthy of fighting for. The same principle applies to
health care, for example, pertinent to hospital closures and cutbacks,
emergency room wait times, surgery waiting lists, expansion of Medicare
services to include more treatment options and dental coverage. It could
apply to education, in the areas of improved funding for special needs
children, restoration of teacher's rights and reduction of college tuition
fees. Electoral reform would be another area where effecting change could be
beneficial. Social Services has always been a concern of mine. If people on
social assistance ever earned more than $100.00 in a month, the equivalent
of any additional earnings was deducted from their assistance cheque. This
discourages anyone on assistance from getting a job. It is legislated
poverty. I've always thought it would be better to rehabilitate and retrain
healthy, able-bodied people who are on assistance and then help them find a
job while providing them with financial incentives to do so. In this way
they could enjoy an improved life and self-esteem and go on to make a
positive contribution to society. I would characterize my approach as
'legislated success'. I also believe the 'Christian Youth Revolution' could
be effective in petitioning the government and judiciary to introduce and
enforce tough minimum sentences and effective proceeds of crime legislation
for drug pushers and those involved in organized crime. There are
uncountable issues and areas of public policy at all levels of government
pertinent to which our youth could organize and effect positive change. I
would encourage all young people to join a political party which truly
reflects their values and then pro-actively support that party as a
supporter, or even as a candidate. When I was at the school, I told all of you
young people that you were the true champions of democracy, and our hope for
the future, and I meant it. If there is any way I can help with organizing
the 'revolution', I'm available. God bless you.
